About the Event

With changes made to the Housing Act 1996 over the last few years, local authorities are now able to discharge their duties via accommodation in the private rented sector as well as social housing. This course provides delegates with detailed knowledge of constitutes a suitable offer whether it be interim accommodation, temporary accommodation or accommodation to end a particular duty. Relevant case law, in both homelessness and allocations, will be highlighted along with key passages from the Code of Guidance 2018. The course will also look at all the criteria for ending duties, such as those under S193 Housing Act 1996 duty.

The course covers offers in relation to:

  1. S188 Interim Accommodation
  2. Prevention stage offers
  3. Relief stage offers
  4. S190 offers 
  5. Accommodation pending conditions are met decision
  6. Main duty stage offers
  7. S193C(4) stage offers 

The course will also cover how duties can be ended at the:

  1. S188 Interim Accommodation stage
  2. Prevention stage
  3. Relief stage
  4. Main duty stage
  5. S193C(4) stage 

All delegates will be given a training pack with templates relating to making offers, suitability reviews as well as ending the various duties.
